What I'm building
Machine Literate is a site where students learn about AI through experiments. I choose what the courses cover and how the site works, and use AI agents to help build and test it.
I also taught AI literacy at Breakthrough New York in summer 2026. This is a separate project, and I haven't launched it yet.
Inside a lesson
Students start with a prediction and explain their reasoning. Then they try an experiment on the site and use what happened to revise their answer. They can use hints and try again if they get stuck.
- AI Foundations is for grades 5–8.
- AI Investigations is a separate course for grades 9–12.
Both courses have 12 lessons, including a final project. The lessons include sources, teacher notes, and extra tasks for students who want to go further.
Using the site
Students don't need an account. Progress saves on their device, and there are printable materials for students and workshop facilitators.
I've also built a prototype for requesting tutoring help. I've only tested it with fictional data; it doesn't arrange real tutoring or send messages.
What I still need to test
The site has automated tests for the lessons, interactions, layouts, and permissions. I still need feedback from teachers and students to find out how well the lessons work, along with accessibility and real-device testing.
